Night of the Living Dead - Live Musical Score! spn-Murphy Agency

Modern Robot performs an original film score to the original zombie movie: Night of the Living Dead.

Filmed in a Pennsylvania house scheduled for demolition, using costumes from second-hand shops and entrails donated by one of the actors, Night of the Living Dead might define what an independent horror film is. With its gruesome scenes and bleak ending, Night of the Living Dead was turned down by a string of distribution companies. But in 1968, this film managed a theatrical release. It quickly went on to be a huge and worldwide success.Night of the Living Dead is what every zombie movie is based on.

At this Crown show, Modern Robot is premiering a new and original score to Night of the Living Dead. This show will be going to the Orlando Fringe in May and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August. The music is written by Ben Singer, a Greensboro-based musician whose wide interests have seen him operate orchestral gear for Meatloaf performances, tour the US with The Wizard of Oz, play keyboards and banjo for the Martha Bassett Band, perform at Triad Stage in Laurelyn Dossett’s Snow Queen, travel China with Andy Eversole’s Banjo Earth project, and accompany many of Greensboro’s fine musicians, including Matty Sheets, Emily Stewart, Molly McGinn, Molly Miller, and Cathalyn Robs.

Joining Ben is Galax-based drummer Nicholas Falk.A Berklee graduate, Nicholas was selected to attend the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, where he studied with Ron Carter, Jason Moran, Lewis Nash, Jack Dejohnette, and others. Nicholas was a member of The Boston Boys, the Rondo Rigs and performs regularly with singer-songwriter Dori Freeman. Kris Hilbert will open the show with an exclusive solo set. Kris is the owner and operator of Legitimate Business, a staple of Greensboro’s music and recording scene.

Since 2010, Modern Robot has been creating movie experiences with live music. Along with traditional silent films (Metropolis, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari), Modern Robot has adapted B-movies (Plan 9 from Outer Space), used public domain footage (NASA’S 1969 moon landing mission), and repurposed industrial films (Modern Appliances, Sound Reproduction, and The Age of Machines). In 2015-2016, Modern Robot presented a film score to the 1926 film Faust at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The Orlando Fringe, The New York International Fringe Festival, and the San Francisco Festival, where it won Techie’s Choice as well as Best of the Fringe.

Pat "Mother Blues" Cohen is back with the BLUES!

Since the age of six, Pat was surrounded by music. Her blues classroom was on the porch of her uncle’s house where one played the guitar and the other played the harmonica. How We ( Music Make Relief Foundation) Helped: Music Maker assisted Pat through the New Orleans Musicians Fund, and she toured with the Music Maker Blues Revue in Australia, Europe, and the U.S. In 2014 Music Maker helped Pat Cohen get a vehicle so she could make it to her gigs. In the winter of 2015 Music Maker got a new heating system for her home. Her first professional engagement came in the early 1980’s when she was asked to perform at a local club where she was attending college. “I had three days to find three musicians and put together 30 songs,” she said. “They loved me—the rest is history because I’ve been singing the Blues ever since.” For years, Pat sang in New Orleans six nights a week, performing at a wide array of venues including the House of Blues, until Katrina destroyed her home. She relocated to North Carolina and has recently started touring with the Music Maker Blues Revue. During her performances, “Mother Blues” unfurls the tapestry of her life experiences to her audience in soulful words and music. She shares the mettle, pathos and ocean-deep compassion of the famous female blues singers she idolizes—women like Billie Holiday, Koko Taylor and Etta James. Pat Cohen is a dramatic and exotic performer whose talent should not be overlooked.
