Limited engagement. One film. One night. One show. The controversial documentary that has polarized America. GASLAND Wednesday, June 15 at 7:00pm
The largest natural gas drilling boom in history is sweeping across the United States and is headed for North Carolina – Moore, Lee and Chatham Counties to be exact -- where state geologists say there is an abundance of natural gas -- enough to make North Carolina self-sufficient for 40 years! A new Halliburton-developed drilling technology called -- horizontal drilling and hydraulic facturing ["fracking"] -- has unlocked a "Saudia Arabia of natural gas" just beneath us. But with potential rewards, come significant risks. Is fracking safe? That’s the question filmmaker / landowner Josh Fox wants to know when he’s asked to sell his mineral rights and lease his land for drilling. In search of the answer, Fox embarks on a cross-country odyssey and uncovers a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. Part verité travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part showdown, part bluegrass banjo meltdown… an Oscar-nominated documentary and 2010 Sundance Film Festival winner, will challenge you to ask the same question – Is it safe? Panel Discussion to follow.
