National Theatre Live free performance: LES BLANCS

LES BLANCS - FREE online July 2-July 9

An African country teeters on the edge of civil war. A society prepares to drive out its colonial present and claim an independent future. Tshembe, returned home from England for his father’s funeral, finds himself in the eye of the storm.

Yaël Farber (Mies Julie, Nirbhaya) directs the final play by Lorraine Hansberry (A Raisin in the Sun): a brave, illuminating and powerful work that confronts the hope and tragedy of revolution.

This play is about imperialism, racism, and colonialism and contains some scenes of racially motivated violence, that some people may find distressing.

The Sunrise Theater has partnered with National Theatre Live (NTL) for 10 years to bring the best of British theater to the Sunrise screen. With the Sunrise temporarily closed, both organizations have been challenged to find safe ways to keep audiences entertained.

The solution for theater fans is National Theatre at Home. Each week through April and May, NTL will be releasing one encore performance to the National Theatre Live YouTube channel. Each broadcast was filmed in front of a live theatre audience using state-of-the-art filming techniques, tailored to the play. From close-ups that capture every flicker of emotion, to sweeping wide shots of the stage, NTL ensures that audiences watching at the Sunrise, and now in their homes, always get the best seat in the house.
