The Allan Harris Band, tribute to Nat King Cole
In celebration of Nat King Cole’s 100th year, the Sunrise is proud to present The Allan Harris Band in a Tribute to “The King”. The live, unforgettable concert event is Sunday, August 25 at 2:30pm. The musical tribute showcases Allan Harris’ smooth voice that is reminiscent of the soulful baritone of his idol’s.
Nathaniel Coles was born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1919. He began his career as a jazz pianist but was most famous for his soft, velvety voice. While still in his teens, Nat put together the King Cole Trio, using the name of a children’s nursery rhyme. By the 50s he had transitioned to a solo career with hits like Unforgettable, For Sentimental Reasons, L-O-V-E, Mona Lisa, The Christmas Song, and When I Fall in Love. In 1956 Nat King Cole became the first African-American performer to host a variety TV series. He has maintained worldwide popularity since his death in 1965.
The Allan Harris Band performed a musical tribute to Nat King Cole at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and has traveled the world honoring the legend. Allan is one of the jazz world's most acclaimed vocalists with a charismatic and soulful voice. He has mesmerized audiences in over 20 countries around the globe, 30 prestigious international jazz festivals, and many of the world’s most famous music venues, and the 2012 Olympics in London.
The Allan Harris Band features jazz drummer and North Carolina native Shirazette Tinnin. The Appalachian State graduate knew from the age of four that she would be a drummer.
As a child Shirazette traveled with her parents listening to them sing in large Southern Gospel groups up and down the east coast.
On keyboards is ArcoIris Sandoval, a jazz pianist, composer and Fulbright award recipient. ArcoIris obtained her Master's degree in jazz piano performance from the Manhattan School of Music and has won several ASCAP young jazz composer awards.
The band’s bassist, Nimrod started his musical progression at the age of 16, first learning bass and eventually adding the upright double bass upon entering college. While obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in music from Kutztown University and a Masters in Jazz Studies from Rutgers University, Nimrod continued his musical journey on the bandstand and honed his craft in Jazz, Gospel, Classical, Soul, R&B and African Rhythms.
