National Theatre

NTL deep blue sea

The Sunrise Theater has partnered with National Theatre Live (NTL) for 10 years to bring the best of British theater to the Sunrise screen. With the Sunrise temporarily closed, both organizations have been challenged to find safe ways to keep audiences entertained.

The solution for theater fans is National Theatre at Home. Each week through April and May, NTL will be releasing one encore performance to the National Theatre Live YouTube channel. Each broadcast was filmed in front of a live theatre audience using state-of-the-art filming techniques, tailored to the play. From close-ups that capture every flicker of emotion, to sweeping wide shots of the stage, NTL ensures that audiences watching at the Sunrise, and now in their homes, always get the best seat in the house.

AMADEUS - FREE online July 16-23

Vienna: the music capital of the world.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a rowdy young prodigy, arrives determined to make a splash. Awestruck by his genius, court composer Antonio Salieri has the power to promote his talent or destroy it. Seized by obsessive jealousy he begins a war with Mozart, with music and, ultimately, with God.

Peter Shaffer’s iconic play had its premiere at the National Theatre in 1979, winning multiple Olivier and Tony awards before being adapted into an Academy Award-winning film.

In this new production, directed by Michael Longhurst (Constellations, The World of Extreme Happiness), Lucian Msamati (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, 'Master Harold’… and the boys) plays Salieri – with live orchestral accompaniment by Southbank Sinfonia.

ALL CAMPS ARE FULL! REGISTRATION IS CLOSED.

Camps will be a little different this year – camp sizes will be greatly reduced, staff and campers will be wearing masks, and hand sanitizer will be flowing. All camp activities and performances will be on the outdoor stage with plenty of fresh air and room for social distancing.

The Sunrise is grateful to the camp sponsors who have returned for a second year! Thank you to Sandhills Pediatrics, This Little Piggy Baby & Children's Boutique, and Rugg Rats Drop Off Daycare for their continued support.

Kimberly Fielder-Jones returns as Camp Director along with her staff of talented high school student choreographers and her new music director. Kim is a graduate of Valdosta State University, an alumnus of Sandhills Community Theater, and currently teaches drama at North Moore High School. Her goal is to foster students’ self-confidence and their love of the theater arts.

Elizabeth Shaver joins Kim as Camp Music Director. Elizabeth, an Atlanta native, is also the Choral Director at Union Pines High School and a choral scholar with the Village Chapel in Pinehurst. Elizabeth's goal is to make sure the campers have a great time while finding and loving their unique voices.

High school and college students with experience in dance, music, or theater are encouraged to apply for volunteer positions on Kim’s team.

Camps are divided by grades with some overlap to accommodate summer schedules. Each camper will learn acting, singing, and movement techniques as well as respect, public speaking and creative thinking. Camps are Monday through Friday from 9am – noon and end with two performances open to the family and friends on Friday at 5:30pm and Saturday at 11am.
